Caribbean Dinghy Championships – early leaders

Lunch break after four races Day 1 of the Caribbean Dinghy Championships

Rhone Kirby is settling for his much predicted second place in the Laser class after the opening morning of the Caribbean Dinghy Championships, reflecting his regatta preview comment “I do  well but I don’t often win!”  Antiguan Rhone was never out of the top three and won Race Two but a combined 1,2,1,1 in the morning’s four races puts fellow countryman Jules Michel current top of the leaderboard.

Antigua is leading the way so far in the CDC’s other three classes too with Daniel Smit leading in the Laser Radials on 1,3,11, Ozzani Lafond on 2,2,1,1 in the Optimist class and Mauriceson Valentine and crew Nahio eyeing up the RS Feva Caribbean Championship crown with 2,1,3,2.  Racing will hopefully continue for the competitors who come from across the Caribbean region this afternoon but the race committee and crews are ashore for lunch and watching a series of rain squalls to pass that are coming through the host venue Falmouth Harbour, before resuming sailing.
